Keeping well thanks Carole. Retired a year ago – almost to the day. Keeping busy with photography http://www.revcorner.org.uk if you are bored at any time. My wife has started going to Windermere painting courses and I have even got her blogging.
Dan MorrellKeymasterThanks Derek. I hope you are well. I didn’t explain myself very well but your reply made me think and I realise it is not a case of expanding the width of the menu bar but it is a case of shortening the titles!
Dan MorrellKeymasterWhen you make a page [usually with a header only and no page content] for you item for the menu bar. save it. Go to Appearance and menu. Click to add that item to your menu. Open that item in the menu with the arrow to the right – and put ‘no click’ into the CSS box. Save – and that item is not on your front page bar. You then add an items to that as sub-items as before. Note though that if your titles are too long the menu bar will wrap around to make a second bar.
Hope that makes sense to you.Dan MorrellKeymasterI am thinking about revamping our website. I would like to be able to increase the number of items on the menu bar. I have noticed some sites have as many as eight options. How can I do this or is it a later version of iChurch? Or can I increase the page width to accommodate a wider menu bar?
Dan MorrellKeymasterNo problem at all, Carole – I’m pleased if it’s helped 🙂
Dan MorrellKeymasterHi Rebecca
The broken link message disappeared but still displayed some gobbledegook. However once I listed an event all was well.I’m now going to look at St Andrews website. Thanks once again, as ever your help is much appreciated.
Dan MorrellKeymasterHi Carole,
It seems to be working for me – here: http://geddesplace.urc.org.uk/events/ – though the calendar is empty because you don’t have any events listed yet.
Does that help, or is it still misbehaving?
Dan MorrellKeymasterThanks Rebecca. I forgot to say that I had actually clicked on ‘right here’ and got ‘Oops! This link appears to be broken. Do you mean urc.org.uk’
Dan MorrellKeymasterHi Carole. Yes, we use and recommend this plugin as a calendar solution – I think it’s great. Once you get the hang of it, I’m sure you’ll be fine!
The ‘events URL slug’ isn’t what you need to display the calendar. You’ll see at the very top of the settings page, it says ‘Where’s my calendar? Right here’ and if you click on the ‘right here’, you will find it’s linked to the calendar display page (which has automatically been published).
You decide where to display your calendar through Appearance – Menus – you will see you now have the option to include ‘event categories’ and ‘events’ on your menu – the simplest way is just to set it up so that all the posts you want to appear on the calendar your visitors see are categorised in the same event category, then you add that category to your menu, and hey presto, the calendar, displaying all events in that category, will appear.
You can see it in action at: http://standrewsmonkseaton.urc.org.uk/events/category/church-events/
I hope that helps. If the pesky thing gives you any more trouble, please let us know and we’ll try to help 🙂
Dan MorrellKeymasterAh, Tim, this is incredibly helpful. You make me happy 🙂
(you’ve also just made http://standrewsmonkseaton.urc.org.uk a go-to site for iChurch trainees!).Thank you.
Dan MorrellKeymasterThanks Rebecca. We’ll stick to Gmail! Belated happy New Year.

Dan MorrellKeymasterHi Ken,
I’ve had a look and things seem to be working on the site. I think the best thing would be for us to have ten minutes together online where I can show you my screen and what to do (we have software to enable that). If that won’t work, I’ll try to talk you through it on the phone. Please can you email me and let me know when might suit?Dan MorrellKeymasterThanks Rebecca. What would I do without your support.
Now have 17,330 from 79 countries!
Ken.
Dan MorrellKeymasterSorry Ken – I’ll have a look at your site as soon as I can.
